No One Ever Sang in This Bathroom Before
(via File Photo) Originally uploaded by File Photo
And is it any wonder? Of all the dreary, drab bathrooms, Marge and Freddy's was one of the worst. Then one day Freddy heard how very inexpensively MASONITE PRESDWOOD TEMPRTILE could give them gleaming, tile-like walls... right over their old walls.

The Modtastic World of Antonio Margheriti's Gamma 1 Quadrilogy
The Modtastic World of Antonio Margheriti's Gamma 1 Quadrilogy
Originally uploaded by modern_fred
Antonio Margheriti (19 September 1930 – 4 November 2002), also known under the pseudonym Anthony M. Dawson, was a prolific Italian filmmaker. He was born in Rome and died in 2002 from a heart attack in Monterosi, Viterbo, near Rome at the age of 72.
Margheriti made two of the first ever Italian space movies in 1960 and 1961 respectively; Assignment Outer Space (known as "Space Men" in Italy) and Battle of the Worlds (known as "The Planet of Extinct Men" in Italy).
In 1965, since he was considered an accomplished science-fiction film director who could work wonders with a very small budget, Margheriti was hired by MGM to direct four Italian space movies that became known as the Gamma-One series. He finished all four films in three months.
The films in the series were made to be distributed in the USA (sold directly to late-night television) under the following titles: Wild Wild Planet, War of the Planets, War Between the Planets and Snow Devils. A fifth film was later made in the Gamma One series in Japan in 1968 entitled The Green Slime (aka Gamma One: Operation Outer Space) which starred Robert Horton, but Margheriti was not involved with that one.

Irving Klaw's Cheese Cake Photos
New Cheese Cake Photos!!
Originally uploaded by The Nite Tripper

Here is an ad from one of the back pages of my copy of the May 1957 edition of "Cabaret" magazine. The discerning gentleman could discreetly send away for an assortment of risque photos of lovely young women for a nominal price. These types of advertisements appeared in an assortment of magazines from the 1940's through the 1960's.
Irving Klaw was one of the leading photographers in the "cheese cake" industry during the 1950's. His best known model of this genre was the infamous Bettie Page.
For those of you who don't know what "cheese cake" means in this context, here is the "definition" from the Urban Dictionary:
"A genre of glamour photography and poster art made popular in wartime pin-ups of the 1940's, often featuring modest poses by movie starlets displaying lots of leg but little explicit nudity. So called because of the resemblance of a stocking-clad female thigh to the layers of a cheesecake dessert."

Head In Hand
Head In Hand
Originally uploaded by The Nite Tripper
Via Flickr:
This is a bizarre old carte de visite photograph taken during the 1800's of a man with a large knife in one hand and his head in another that may have been sold at a carnival or traveling freak show or simply as a gag photo to give to friends. There is nothing to identify this man or to identify the photographer who produced this example of what was then top of the line photo manipulation.
The carte de visite was a small photograph mounted on a thick paper backing measuring 2.5 inches by 4 inches that was developed in Paris, France by André Adolphe Eugène Disdéri in 1854 and soon spread into worldwide use. The name is derived from the fact that the photograph was the size of a calling card and could be given to people the same way as a calling card. This photographic medium remained popular until the early 1870’s when they were replaced in popularity by the larger cabinet card photograph.
